Katherine Mitchell
has maintained a private teaching practice in St. Louis since 1990. Her
students include teachers, musicians, librarians, coaches, disk jockeys,
physicians, lawyers and homemakers. Katherine taught the Alexander Technique
at the Conservatory for Theatre Arts at Webster University from 1990 to 2001,
where her class was required for all acting and musical theatre majors. She
taught AT at Washington University for dancers and for the general student
population.
Katherine has given workshops and lecture demonstrations for a wide range of
groups, including The National Association of Teachers of Singing, HealthSouth,
Christian Hospital NW, SIU-E Music Department, and The School of the Art
Institute of Chicago. She has been a guest teacher for AT training programs such
as the Dimon Institute in Cambridge, MA and the Constructive Teaching Center in
Menlo Park, CA. She has given workshops to her peers at AmSAT's annual general
meetings.
Katherine opened SLAT in fall of 2001, when she started training Alexander
Technique teachers. Her three year training program is certified by the
American Society for the Alexander Technique, AmSAT.
She graduated from the Urbana Center for the Alexander Technique in 1989 and
holds a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Choreography from the University of
Memphis. She has choreographed and performed extensively in Memphis, Chicago,
and Boulder. Katherine has presented environmental dances in such diverse
settings as a racquetball court, a rooftop, a meadow and a 19th century
farmhouse.
